My idea behind the Islands series was a combination of bringing together the banal space of a traffic island with ideas of the meeting point or visions of where we wish to escape. At these junctures no one really meets except in passing, within moments of unspoken gesture. The roundabout being an entry point or node, but also a symbol, in some cases, of the area, city and town it is in, playing a double role within the landscape. gh 2002
